(WBIR, Clinton) - Two local school districts were awarded $25,000 grants Tuesday.
The Coca-Cola Foundation presented the checks to Anderson County Schools and Clinton City Schools.
The money will go to start programs that will encourage physical activity and balanced diets.
Each district plans to implement their plan starting next semester.
In Anderson County, middle school students will be starting gardens.
"Then they'll actually be planting seeds, growing vegetables and learning the nutritional value of those foods," said Director of Anderson County Schools Larry Foster.
"What we want to do is combat childhood obesity by doing after school, before school, weekend and summer activities such as running clubs, hiking, swimming," said Director of Clinton City Schools Vicki Violette.
Both districts say they are ecstatic to have $50,000 coming into the county to help the schools.
