(WBIR, Oak Ridge) - Several college students from Milwaukee headed south to Oak Ridge for their spring break.

The students from Milwaukee School of Engineering are helping put a new roof on a bike shed for a local charity.

The Holiday Bureau gives clothes, toys and other gifts to around 1,000 people every year at Christmas.

For many years, the shed on the back of the building where they store bicycles has been leaking. They've repaired it many times, but the problems continued. Now they will have a brand new roof thanks to some students volunteering for Habit for Humanity on their spring break.

"We enjoy it, a lot. We think it's fun to give back to the community. A lot of us are architectural and civil engineers, and we learn a lot about this in the classroom and it's great to actually get your hands on it and actually be doing it," said Mekon Hayes, a junior at Milwaukee School of Engineering.

"It's a big deal, really big. As I said, we are entirely dependent on volunteers from the community," said Jeanne Dean, a volunteer at Holiday Bureau.

The roof is expected to be finished tomorrow.
