Lake City is facing new challenges in its efforts to change its name to Rocky Top.
The House of Bryant Publications, which was started by the children of Rocky Top songwriters Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, has filed a lawsuit against the East Tennessee town for an injunction to stop Lake City from changing its name.
In November, city council members voted to change the town's name in an effort to get developers to create a "Rocky Top" theme park. Any name change must be approved by the state legislature, and while a bill has been introduced, no action has been taken yet.
On Tuesday, the House of Bryant issued a press release says the city's name change 'is an attempt to unfairly exploit the fame and goodwill of House of Bryant's intellectual property."
It also says efforts to reach an understanding with Lake City have been unsuccessful.
Lake City Mayor Tim Sharp told 10News that he hasn't been served with the lawsuit yet so he can't comment.
