An Oak Ridge woman has been charged after an almost 4 hour standoff with police on Monday.
Patsy Oliver, 62, was charged with Going Armed while Intoxicated after court documents show she approached a neighbor while carrying a small handgun. The man took cell phone video of Oliver, which showed her standing in the cul de sac of the road holding what appeared to be a small black handgun behind her back. The documents note that her "actions are as that of an intoxicated person."
When deputies later made contact with her on the porch of her home, the officer said "her speech was slurred and slow, her demeanor was at times erratic" and "there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about her person."
In her home, officers found a .25 caliber black handgun with seven rounds in the magazine.
Charges are pending against a woman who refused to come out of an Oak Ridge home for several hours after a neighborhood dispute.
According to Oak Ridge Police, a call came into 911 at 6:48 am about a gun being shown during a disturbance at 123 Jellico Lane.
The first officers to arrive spoke briefly with Patsy Oliver, 62, but then she refused to talk any further.
Tactical officers and trained crisis negotiators were brought, and eventually were able to speak to Oliver. At 10:41 am, investigators said Oliver was taken into custody. She was taken to Methodist Medical Center to be treated for a cut to the hand, which ORPD said was not injured during the standoff.
ORPD was in contact with officials at two area schools, Robertsville Middle and Willowbrook Elementary, in case the incident grew more serious, but the schools were never placed on lockdown.
