Funeral arrangements have been made for an 8-year-old boy who died in the hospital after he nearly drowned in Melton Hill Lake last weekend.

Brayden Keith Pearson nearly drowned while snorkeling in Clark Park in Oak Ridge Saturday, according to a press release sent by the family on Wednesday. Friends and family pulled the boy from the lake, called 911, and gave Brayden CPR until firefighters arrived.

A helicopter flew Brayden to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Monday.

His family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, June 29. A memorial service will follow at Click Funeral Home at 9020 Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville. The burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

His family has also set up a medical fund in Brayden's honor at Children's Hospital and youcaring.com.

Brayden attended Woodland Elementary School and played on the Boys and Girls Club of America's little league team.

(WBIR) An eight year old boy was hospitalized this weekend, after nearly drowning at Melton Hill Lake.

According to Oak Ridge Fire Chief Darryl Kerley, it happened Saturday at Clark Center Park in Oak Ridge. Kerley said the boy was swimming with family when he disappeared underwater.

His family pulled him from the water and started CPR, before members of the Oak Ridge Police and Fire Departments arrived on scene.

Lifestar flew the boy to East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, where Kerley said the child was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Kerley praised the family's quick response and initiating CPR, saying it was an important part in rescuing the boy.

The child's name and condition have not been released.
