(WBIR - Oak Ridge) Three Oak Ridge Police Officers are on administrative leave after they shot at a woman who they said aimed a weapon at them during a standoff this past weekend.
According to ORPD, Officers Leslie Miller, Christopher Carden and Kenneth Prickett responded to a call about a suicidal woman Saturday just after 11:30 p.m. The woman's boyfriend was the one who called police, and told them she had access to several guns.
When they got to the house, police say they found the woman outside on the sidewalk, carrying a semi-automatic pistol. They said she repeatedly pointed the gun at her head.
The officers said they told the woman to put her gun on the ground, but that she ignored them. Then, they say she suddenly pointed the gun at them. The officers said they feared for their lives and fired a total of four rounds at her. All four rounds missed, but the woman fell to the ground.
The officers then tased her, and put her in handcuffs. She was taken to Methodist Medical Center for evaluation, and there are three counts of aggravated assault pending against the woman.
The officers are currently on administrative leave as the department investigates.
