The Love Kitchen got a late Christmas present from residents in Knox County on Wednesday.

County officials delivered several barrels full of canned foods, along with a check for more than $3,400 to the Love Kitchen founders Helen and Ellen.

The donations were collected in December during the Knox County Parks and Recreation Department's annual Holiday Festival of Lights celebration in Concord Park.

"We was getting low in this and look what the Lord do! He sent us this so we don't have to send anybody away because we don't have the food. Now you know that's a blessing," said Helen Ashe, a co-founder of the Love Kitchen.

The Love Kitchen gives meals and emergency food packages to the homebound, homeless and unemployed.
