An organization that seeks to help children realize their full potential is trying to impact an entire community to make healthier decisions.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Cumberland Plateau in Oneida is working on a new community-wide healthy lifestyles initiative.
Club leaders are developing plans for children and their families to engage in an active lifestyle and regular exercise through walking and running. That includes plans for The Trailblazer Triple Challenge
: a set of 5K, 10K, kids fun run and backcountry races set for August.
The children will enjoy activities at the club while their parents will meet at the Oneida City Park.
"We want to get kids moving and get kids healthy, because obviously if they're making good decisions regarding their health and lifestyles, then it's going to be good for the whole community at large," said Hank Hill, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Cumberland Plateau.
The Boys and Girls Club hopes to get the program up and running later this year.
The outside activities at the Club will take place on the Field of Dreams, a multi-purpose sports field that WBIR and our viewers helped build in 2012.
