Gatlinburg will soon be home to a second distillery.
Sugarlands Distilling Company gave local media a tour of its new facility and operations on Thursday.
The distillery's name refers back to the 1800's, when moonshining was a way of life in the mountains, particularly in the Sugarlands area.
A change in state law last year relaxed restrictions on distillery locations, allowing dozens of new distilleries to open across the state, including Sugarlands.
Company leaders say they're prepared for the increased competition.
"There's a good amount of competition that's starting to enter the market. Everybody's kind of doing their own thing. We're really excited to bring our own thing to the market. We think that what we're doing is just a great different sort of approach to moonshine and culture and heritage of this particular area," sai dBrent Thompson, Concept Director for Sugarlands Distilling Company.
The company will sell seven locally-produced flavors. A public grand opening celebration is planned for March 21st.
