(WBIR, Knoxville) - Johnson University is changing their athletic mascot after 120 years.
The new mascot, the Royals, was unveiled Thursday morning during a chapel service.
Previously, men's teams were known as the Preachers and women's teams as the Evangels and Spirits.
The discussion about one mascot began in 2011 when the school changed its name from Johnson Bible College.
After a long process the school decided on the Johnson University Royals.
"It's non-gender. It's not a very common name. It's something that we can all agree that we are as opposed to gender specific names for the men's teams as opposed to the women's teams," said Ken Athletic Director Ken Underwood.
Students were excited to finally find out what their new mascot is.
T-Shirts with the new logo are already on sale.
