UPDATE TUESDAY 11:03 am

(WBIR) Knoxville police released the name of the victim killed in a crash that partially shut down Alcoa Highway Monday afternoon.

Officials said John Thompson, 83, of Knoxville was killed after his Subaru Impresza crossed both southbound lanes of Alcoa Highway and stopped in the inside, northbound lane near Ginn Road. A Chevy Impala traveling in the northbound lane struck the Subaru, sending it crashing head-on into a Audi A4 traveling southbound on Alcoa Highway. The Audi spun around and struck a GMC Arcadia also traveling southbound lane.

Officials pronounced Thompson dead at the scene. Crews drove the driver and passenger of the Audi to UT Medical Center for what appeared to be serious injuries. They also took the driver of the Impala to hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Arcadia refused medical treatment.

KPD said it's still investigating what caused the crash.
