Update Thursday 9:30 a.m.:
Lane closures on Chapman Highway will begin Thursday morning as crews work to remove large rocks from the cliff along the roadway. TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi told 10News that work should begin on the rock slope after 10 a.m. Thursday.
Thursday's lane closures are scheduled to wrap up by 3 p.m.
(WBIR) TDOT announced Monday morning it plans to close a section of Chapman Highway on Thursday to remove large rocks from the cliff along the roadway.
Crews will close a section of the highway between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day weather permitting.
Another rock fell from a cliff Monday morning in the same area on Chapman Highway where several rocks damaged at least five vehicles last week. The incident happened near Ye Olde Steakhouse at about 2:15 p.m. Friday. A basketball-sized rock fell onto the highway, but no one was injured.
TDOT crews found the rock against on the side of an embankment beside the highway. Engineers examined the cliff and removed loose rocks on Saturday. They suggested that TDOT uses larger equipment and lane closures to remove large rocks that could possibly fall from the cliff.
