A motorcyclist is dead following a traffic accident that closed down southbound lanes of Chapman Highway for several hours Saturday evening.
(WBIR) Knoxville police identified the motorcyclist who died after he crashed on in south Knoxville Saturday evening.
The accident happened on Chapman Highway just north of East Dick Ford Lane at about 5 p.m., according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Zebediah Martin, 23, was driving his motorcycle in the left lane on Chapman Highway when an SUV made a U-turn in front of him.
Crews drove Martin to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The passenger of the motorcycle was taken to hospital, and she's expected to be okay.
Officials also took the driver of the SUV to the hospital for a blood draw, which is required by state law for drivers involved in a fatal crash.
The driver and passenger of the SUV weren't hurt in the crash.
Once the investigation is complete, police hand the case over to the Knox County District Attorney General's Office for review.At this time, officials haven't filed any charges against the driver of the SUV.
