A home that collapsed Wednesday in Sequoyah Hills had been vacant for two years.
The partial collapse of an abandoned house is bringing attention to a greater issue surrounding vacant homes.
The home on Scenic Drive in Sequoyah Hills partially collapsed Wednesday afternoon. The home has been condemned for nearly two years.
Knoxville Fire Department Captain D.J. Corcoran says there was evidence that homeless squatters had been there. He says it's often a problem in homes left vacant.
"Homeless people will get in there and you know it's just bad. A lot of times these homes they don't have power to them. In the winter time they'll start fires, they don't really care. It's not their home," said Corcoran.
Firefighters contacted Codes Enforcement Officers. Captain Corcoran says it's likely the home will be knocked down.
