Update: Forensic examiners have determined that the skeletal remains discovered by a construction crew on December 30 are those of a middle-aged white female. Her identity has still not been confirmed.
Investigators believe she died of natural causes.
Knoxville Police are investigating after a construction crew found human skeletal remains in a wooded area of west Knoxville.
According to KPD, officers were sent to the area on Middlebrook Pike near Knott Road around 11:22 am on Monday. Investigators and the medical examiner's office were there recovered the remains during the afternoon. The were taken to the UT forensics center, where experts will work to identify the person and determine how they died.
Investigators have very limited information at this time, and do not know how long the remains have been there, whether it was a male or female, or how the person died.
They did say there were no obvious signs of foul play.
