(WBIR) A family and several pets escaped a west Knoxville house fire early Friday morning, but they said a couple of their cats are missing.

Crews responded to two house fires, nearly within an hour of each other. They were able to quickly extinguish the flames at the second house fire on Nightingale Lane after arriving at about 3:40 a.m. Firefighters contained the damage to the first floor near the fireplace.

One adult, two children and several pets were inside when the fire started, but no one was injured in the incident. The resident said a couple of their cats are missing. The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary shelter.

Investigators are looking into was caused the fire, but no foul play is suspected.
