The Courtyard by Marriott hosted its grand opening for its Bearden location in West Knoxville on Thursday with a donation to Alzheimer's Tennessee.

Guests could buy purple martinis with the money going to support the organization. The hotel chain owner also made a $2,500 donation.

It's an organization with special ties to one Marriott director.

"Three and a half years ago when I moved here my grandmother passed away with Alzheimer's, so I've been very active with the organization, and when we opened the hotel we were very happy that they were right around the bend and we could be closer to support them," said Christine Chenot, director of sales.

The hotel features 124 rooms and 18 suites, and is also the prototype for future Marriott designs. It features new guest room decor and a new lobby design that future Marriotts are expected to adopt.
