Powerball jackpot grows to $400 million
With no weekend winner, the Powerball lottery jackpot has risen to an estimated $400 million for the drawing today. A single winner taking the lump sum payout would end up with about $230 million. Opting for the quick cash grab, accounting for taxes, would still leave more than $100 million to invest wisely.
Ted Ligety won his second career Olympic gold medal when he won the giant slalom event in Sochi. Ligety dominated the first run and held on to win the medal ahead of France's Steve Missillier. Fellow American Bode Miller finished 20th.
GM knew in 2004 about dangerous ignition switches
General Motors knew as early as 2004 that its new Chevrolet Cobalt had an ignition switch that could inadvertently shut off the engine while driving, according to depositions in a civil suit against GM obtained by USA TODAY. At least six people have died because of accidents involving the switches in GM compacts, prompting the big automaker to recall 778,562 of its 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5 compacts in North America.
Obama heads to attend summit in Mexico
When President Obama heads to Mexico today for talks with fellow heads of state at the North American Leadership Summit, he will almost certainly get pressured once again by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline. The Canadians — along with a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers — are pressing hard on Obama to approve the controversial pipeline.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovychhas blamed opposition leaders for the eruption of violence in central Kiev that left at least 25 people dead, seen scores more hospitalized and that has threatened to rekindle tensions between the East and West.
