Governor Haslam says he will support a school voucher bill similar to the one he proposed last year.

The governor says the proposal once again will be limited to students from low-income families who attend failing schools. Parents of qualifying students would get state money to send their child to a private school.

Governor Haslam withdrew a similar bill last year when Senate Republicans wanted to expand it to include more children. The governor's plan last year would have capped the program at 5,000 students in the first year with a gradual expansion to 20,000 students by 2016.

Under that proposal, students at Sarah Moore Greene Elementary in Knox County are the only ones in East Tennessee who would have qualified.
