Tennessee's entire Congressional delegation is asking for $80 million to help struggling hospitals in the state.
The state lost federal grant money for TennCare. They're asking the government to replace that money with $80 million to help hospitals that treat patients who can't afford their own care.
The lawmakers point out that Tennessee hospitals shelled out $700 million in TennCare costs last year. Tthat money was not reimbursed, and they also provided $970 million in charity care.
Senator Lamar Alexander says without the extra money, hospitals and patients could suffer. He expects wait times would increase and some hospitals would struggle to pay for care.
