Tuesday afternoon, more than a handful of state senators will discuss a bill dubbed by critics as the "keep the gays away bill."

The bill would protect wedding-related businesses like caterers, photographers, and florists that refuse service to a same-sex couple based on religious beliefs.

The Senate judiciary committee is scheduled to debate the bill Tuesday, and they could vote on whether it moves forward.

The Senate sponsor, Senator Mike Bell, says it's a matter of protection. He says he believes the state will eventually overturn its gay marriage ban and this bill would further protect businesses.

Opponents like the ACLU say the bill discriminates against gay couples.

Knoxville representative Bill Dunn is sponsoring the House version.
