(WBIR) A bill that would have allowed for some students illegally in the United States to get cheaper tuition will not go into effect after failing in the House Monday.

The bill proposed to give students who aren't American citizens in-state tuition if they met several criteria. Right now, they pay out-of-state tuition, which is nearly three times more expensive.

The bill didn't reach the House floor, failing to make the required vote in a House committee.
