She ordered a baby's name changed, made international headlines, and then was scolded for the whole episode by legal colleagues, but that former magistrate wants back on the bench and is running for judge.

Lu Ann Ballew is running for Sessions Court Judge in Jefferson County. The county election office says she filed her qualifying petition in February.

She's running against four others in the Republican primary: Jason S. Randolph, W. Keith Repass, Dennis "Will" Roach, II, and Rick Scroggins. The election commission says the winner will replace the retiring Judge Ben Strand.

There are no candidates in the Democratic primary.

In January, a judge removed Ballew from her post as the child support magistrate in Cocke County.

That judge said Ballew acted illegally last summer when she ordered the parents of Messiah Deshawn Martin to change the baby's first name.
