Gov. Bill Haslam has appointed Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Jeff Bivins to the Tennessee Supreme Court.
The Republican governor announced Thursday that Bivins, 53, will succeed Justice William C. Koch, Jr., who plans to retire July 15. Bivins has served on the Court of Criminal Appeals since 2011 and was a circuit court judge before then, presiding over the 2008 trial of Christ Koulis, a plastic surgeon accused of overdosing his girlfriend.
Bivins also served on the Williamson County Commission and as general counsel to the Department of Human Resources under Gov. Don Sundquist. He practiced law at Boult, Cummings, Conners & Berry, specializing in commercial litigation, mediation, arbitration and government relations.
