County Commissioner Mike Hammond will take over the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk's office that's been the center of controversy all year long.
Hammond defeated local attorney Steve Williams and Jason Hunnicutt, a prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office, in the Republican primary. No Democrats are in the running, so the race is decided in the primary.
Hammond will replace former clerk Joy McCroskey in August, who decided not to seek re-election. His county commission term will expire at the same time.
