Governor Bill Haslam signed an agreement with eight other states to protect the dairy industry in the event of an outbreak of Hoof and Mouth Disease.

The Secure Milk Supply Plan sets the standards for how milk producers, haulers and processors interact with animal health authorities to keep the disease from spreading.

It hasn't been seen in the U.S. since 1929, but outbreaks happen every year in other countries, and the disease can easily spread through international trade.
