A major University of Tennessee utility upgrade will force crews to close part of the Cumberland Avenue strip.

Two lanes between James Agee Street and Eleventh Street will be closed July 23rd through August 8th.

Crews will be upgrading UT's steam line and adding stormwater drains.

The university's steam plant provides heating and hot water for more than 150 buildings. The project is tied to UT's efforts to eliminate coal use.

City officials are asking drivers to take alternate routes during the work.
