Lots of road work on I-75 north of Knoxville are causing some major traffic headaches.
TDOT is in the midst of three road projects in Campbell County, and one of them, near exit 134 (Caryville, Jacksboro, LaFollette), is expected to take the rest of the summer to complete.
Crews are repairing an overpass, which means traffic at times has been reduced to one lane. On high volume weekends, some drivers told 10News it took them an hour to travel just five miles
Right now, southbound traffic is reduced to one lane, but the northbound lanes have been affected off and on for several weeks.
Drivers how travel that stretch of interstate frequently say it could be a long summer.
"It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get from Lake City to the Caryville exit," said driver Tina Gregg. Without the road work, that drive would take about five minutes.
If you are heading in that direction, you should check the TDOT Smartway website to find out if there are any lanes closed, and which side of the interstate may be affected. There's also a Smartway app you can download if you are already on the road.
