(School Release) Tennessee basketball coach Cuonzo Martin is among 21 former Illinois high school players being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Martin starred at Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, Ill., where he teamed with fellow Hall of Fame inductee LaPhonso Ellis. Lincoln won three state title from 1987-89, and Martin later was named a legend of the IHSA State Basketball Tournament in 2007. Martin went on to play collegiately at Purdue, winning a pair of Big Ten championships, before being selected in the 1995 NBA Draft and enjoying a brief professional playing career.
Martin just completed his third season as head coach at Tennessee. He owns a .606 winning percentage with the Volunteers and recently guided the Big Orange to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament.
Joining Martin on this year's list of IBCA Hall of Fame inductees are former Illinois high school standouts Eric Anderson (Indiana), Kevin Duckworth (Eastern Illinois), Ellis (Notre Dame), Everette Stephens (Purdue) and Darrell Walker (Arkansas).
The IBCA Hall of Fame banquet takes place April 26 at Illinois State University.
