(WBIR) - After one of the most remarkable runs in Southern League history, the Chicago Cubs have promoted Tennessee Smokies 3B Kris Bryant to AAA Iowa.

Through half a season, Bryant leaves the league as its leader in 10 offensive categories, including the Triple Crown (.355, 22 HR, 58 RBI).

The Cubs second overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft from the University of San Diego also leads in:

SLG (.702)

OBP (.458)

OPS (1.160)

Total Bases (174)

Walks (43)

Hits (88)

Runs (61)

On Monday Bryant won the Home Run Derby at the Southern League All-Star Game in Chattanooga, blasting 16 homers.

The 22-year old Las Vegas native was named the Cubs' Minor League Player of the Month in May after hitting .407 with 12 home runs.

During their rebuilding phase, the Cubs have generally opted to let a prospect stay in one level for an entire season.

But Bryant's furious pace may have forced the organization's hand.

Last week, Cubs VP of Scouting and Player Development Jason McLeod told WBIR: "Kris is doing something that not many people have done before so it certainly makes us have discussions about his timeline."

According to MLB.com Bryant is rated as the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball.

He's projected as an All-Star in the Major Leagues.

"Every time I hit a home run I feel like a little kid running around the bases," Bryant told WBIR last week. "When you're little and playing little league, that's what you want to do is hit a home run. Even when I do it now I get that same feeling."‚Äč
