QB situation: Auburn focused on senior Nick Marshall (1,976 passing yards, 1,068 rushing yards in 2013) becoming a more consistent passing threat.
Strengths/weaknesses: Marshall and D'haquille Williams (left), the nation's top junior college receiver in 2013, developed a nice connection this spring. Four starters return to an OL that paved the way for the nation's top rushing offense. The defense is still looking for answers, particularly at DE and DB.
Key losses: Tre Mason, the SEC's leading rusher who broke Bo Jackson's single-season rushing record, is off to the NFL along with DE Dee Ford, the SEC co-leader with 10.5 sacks. Iron Bowl hero Chris Davis was the secondary and special teams leader.
Injuries: The defense suffered through 13 injuries this spring, limiting the development of multiple returning starters. None was serious but depth at DE was thin with Carl Lawson and Elijah Daniel out.
Spring game: Marshall threw for nearly 300 yards and Williams caught five passes for 88 yards before 70,465 fans.
