The Tennessee cross country team will start the season on Friday at Chattanooga.
The Tennessee men and women's cross country teams will head to UT Chattanooga on Friday for the Powerade Invitational. It will mark the first time the Vols' have competed under new head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan.
"This is a group of cross country runners that have a big heart," said Sullivan. "We're small in numbers, but we have a big heart and that's really what it takes. It takes grittiness and great emotion to run our sport, so I think we're going to see some good stuff and great improvement through the season."
This will be a short distance competition for the team. The women will run two miles and the men will do a 5 K.
"We're running UTC and we're running Middle Tennessee," explained Sullivan. "So, you know I kind of like that we're opening up against Tennessee schools and we should stack up well against them."
Sunday, another journey will begin for Coach Sullivan. She will traveling to Marrakech, Morocco to serve as the head of the Americas at the IAAF Continental Cup. This is a once-every-four-years competition and runs from September 13-14. The Americas team consists of athletes from North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
