KNOXVILLE (WBIR) - In town for his annual Peyton Manning Golf Classic, the former Vols quarterback says he plans on working out with the Tennessee football team this week.
"I always enjoy that," Manning said. "Talk about really feeling old, some of these guys weren't even born when I played here at Tennessee. But it's fun to communicate with the guys, and try to help them out and answer a question if they may have them, and looking forward to Coach Jones as well."
Despite last year's 5-7 finish, Manning says he is pleased with the direction of the program.
"I really like Butch. I'm a big Butch Jones fan," Manning said. "We communicate pretty often throughout the season, during recruiting he does a good job of keeping me updated on what's going on."
Manning says he will workout with the Vols on Monday.
"He's extremely organized," Manning said of Jones. "He's got a pretty good itinerary for me once I get over there today."
Manning will meet with the team's quarterbacks, but then address the team as a whole, like he did last off-season.
"He wants me to address the team this year because there's a lot of different players than he had last year," Manning said.
He says he's pleased with the progress the program is making under Jones.
"I think it's going in the right direction," Manning said. "I think Butch had a lot of work to do when he got here and he's put in that work. He's signing some of his players. Every coach wants to have their players. He's been patient, at the same time he's been hard working as he's advertised to be. I just see it continuing to get better, I really do."
