00:00 Had apologized and don't have much Google Voice albeit briefly.
00:04 I thought a very very productive day relative -- situational football.
00:09 We had third and short going to date certain 13 Q
00:13 we put an hour red zone packages so really installation in
00:16 the red zone. First day of -- obviously was also competition
00:21 Tuesday. We scored every single drill. Also an. One vote to
00:28 deny the Q. And everything again is about competing and practicing.
00:33 Simulating game gains speed repetitions are really the challenge is you're
00:37 reading you're creating gain energy. I game atmosphere game mindset. And
00:42 for younger players. That's hard thing to do on a consistent
00:46 basis. And that's why we've been challenged them it was great
00:49 to finally practiced since he. But I thought our kids fought
00:53 through practice. And it was a very very physical state today.
00:57 We'll take -- day off tomorrow. Tomorrow be more lifting and
01:00 more mental get caught up on her film study. And work
01:03 our mental preparation so I answer your question. -- Well that's
01:11 the rigors of training camp and we talk about football being
01:14 a lifestyle in football as a lifestyle and as a football
01:17 player and you're never a 100% healthy that's kind of what
01:21 you go through injury -- premiere we understand that we monitor.
01:25 We monitor. The amount of reps that are wide receivers taken
01:29 across the board we have pitch counts for quarterbacks we really
01:33 watch closely. -- -- You know I've got a gimmick game
01:42 mentality that game energy. That passion that we talk about it
01:47 you know they came out now became challenging at the end.
01:50 Towards the end of practice and you know it's part of
01:52 learning the flight through the -- In great condition players are
01:57 rewarded football was football rewards goes in great condition both mentally
02:01 and physically. What we have great great teaching opportunities tonight tomorrow
02:06 with a lot of film and again this -- in the
02:08 first -- tackling. -- -- -- -- -- -- The guys
02:19 started at 7:30 this morning anarchy mean you know like your
02:23 approach. They were focused in. Our key meetings are interactive we
02:28 called on players. They have to talk about previous TV cam
02:32 lets me know. Where their minds that is watched him or
02:35 so I did like your overall approach today. The other being
02:39 challenged in not only on the field but again this in
02:42 the final week classes in the papers in their final examinations
02:46 coming up. So I think it's just a combination of a
02:49 lot of things what I was very pleased the way they
02:52 fought through today but not fighting through it it's more how
02:55 you would act today. And they attacked that -- exception well.
03:02 There. Well -- the great thing about -- -- putting on
03:09 33 pounds. They're there right now. Allison does a great job
03:15 and fueling station works very close and we changed and Dave
03:18 Lawson and they've done a great job but also. A lot
03:22 of credit goes. The end it's the sacrifices. Did not that
03:25 maybe 2 o'clock in the morning and make itself. A triple
03:29 Decker peanut butter and jelly sandwiches maybe even a little bit
03:32 -- Getting arrested and working exceptionally hard -- He's done that
03:37 did. It. Well his style of play has never changed in
03:46 terms of his swagger. It's competitive nature his instinct. And obviously
03:52 he's playing a lot more physical just because he had --
03:55 -- need to continue to -- we can't. Play at this
03:59 level that way and he knows that can continue to work
04:02 through what you manual mode he's in one of those individuals
04:05 that's been out. You know. A great great team training camp
04:10 he's been extremely consistent each and every day you know what
04:13 you do with men and -- Every day there's there's no
04:17 bad -- and hold -- against a credit. His mother and
04:20 his father in the way you've been rated as competitive nature
04:24 make it back to recruit. You know here's a young man
04:27 what they're very highly recruited. We had him in our camp
04:31 he was extremely competitive we -- now offering scholarship. We waited
04:35 for the first couple games of his senior year. Any users
04:39 starting quarterback comes from a great high school football program won
04:43 a state championship that if he. To a state championship as
04:46 quarterback. He has all the games. Would have -- one of
05:00 those individuals to affect me and -- That's put a lot
05:04 of -- he's really done exceptional moment strict conditions. And we
05:09 challenged -- plains states now. -- brings it every day. We're
05:14 gonna need a month or so you can continue being involved
05:17 in terms of football intelligence. We've asked a lot of him
05:20 here's a young man who really. In play much defense tonight
05:23 school period you're starting nickel and in games going. In the
05:28 swamp playing organ had big interceptions so he's done a great
05:32 job we really need in this -- especially. In our special.
05:37 It. Yeah. Josh is playing with a very high level of
05:46 confidence right now he's blocking and playing physical. He's making catches
05:52 he's he's making plays for us. -- so I've been exceptionally
05:55 pleased with him and Josh again as one of those individuals
05:58 he doesn't say too much he just comes to work each
06:01 and every day. And now so far been very very proud
06:04 of him and I know coach he's excited about. -- And
06:12 it. -- Well it's a great challenge I think it's a
06:17 tribute to him always performing right now even get -- due
06:20 June he would have the luxury of spring football. And he's
06:24 extremely extremely competitive when you have that great competitive character. That's
06:29 all you need to -- driving your competitiveness he's done well
06:32 in the classroom -- In terms of the football knowledge he
06:36 understands the offense he's made plays force in the -- he's
06:40 been a great job. Great addition -- football he's gonna make
06:43 us better. -- Well it helped immensely. You can't put a
06:57 price tag and it's been invaluable. And again I've said it
07:00 is you win with consistent messaging you can't waiver and there's
07:04 a plan to win here is some times that plan to
07:07 win takes time. But if you follow the plan that'll happen.
07:11 In these coaches know because we've been through it together and
07:14 now being through the year here Tennessee they understand everything. Is
07:18 about relationships and you -- trust every single day in doubt
07:22 we have the relationships. With our players but also with us.
07:27 Or wife's are best friends. When we have retirement by myself
07:31 where we're spending time each other. And I think we do
07:34 a great job really eating off of each other you know
07:37 playing off each other's strengths and no one job. And we
07:41 can laugh about it you know you can see also were.
07:44 Our coaching staff this is as competitive as anyone and we
07:47 get in the competitive situations that make competitive juices the competitive
07:52 fire. Starts to burn a little bit but. I'm very --
07:57 so hard you know they're really I've done a great job
08:00 are really mentoring teaching. But the we can drive -- I
08:09 do not just at the linebacker position and that's -- we
08:12 really challenged our team is -- we talk about power that
08:16 position but really its power of the team. You know AJ
08:19 Johnson needs to get around the office of players. He needs
08:22 to get around the secondary needs to get around. The quarterbacks.
08:25 And we challenged -- our -- particularly are older players to
08:29 be able to do that. And I always watch. The great
08:32 addition that we have right now is smoking's. And it's it's
08:36 a tribute to division here which Dave -- in the administration
08:39 because. To me those are the little things that people don't
08:43 see is that's where your team etc. they come together --
08:46 go downstairs he together. -- first class facility now with grapefruit.
08:52 And our players stay there and they hang out with each
08:54 other and I'll always watch -- race. And AJ one of
08:58 those individuals who never sits at this -- all the time
09:01 and it's about building those relationships. Yeah he's out for the
09:07 year. We got the results back. It's Achilles tendon and it's
09:12 -- story on this this year. -- -- I'm await to
09:22 see two I watched the video and we get some live
09:25 one on one tackling. AJ got a few reps but --
09:29 a lot of -- same thing with current project we really
09:31 want to see our younger players the other -- reality. Kia
09:36 how they played instinctively when the -- came and so on
09:39 -- little bit more after watch the video. Yes. Thank you.
KNOXVILLE (WBIR) - Vols coach Butch Jones was much more pleased with Tennessee's focus in Practice No. 5, than he was in Practice No. 4 on Monday.

Jones said he was happy with the players' focus coming in to 7:30 a.m., meetings on Tuesday, and their competitiveness through a hot practice in the afternoon.

- Tennessee also began installing Red Zone packages on offense.
