00:07 Today competition but the name of the game this camp here's
00:10 some Bob -- part of the -- Wofford then deepens daily
00:13 drills that passed an 800 meter in the offense. And defense
00:17 of lions went out in the run game bush declaring he
00:20 offensively that drilled an important part of that a lot of
00:22 freshman Colin Thomas he's expected to start at right tackle. Lets
00:26 you know he's never played there before. -- It just okay.
00:31 -- right. I immediately. Senior seasons. Targets pastor of good news.
00:38 Not I don't think it's better spot. This quarterback because it's
00:44 the old having that he played center in terms of yours
00:48 is flawless football. It comes from. -- good football knowledge so.
00:56 That was a. All right here is WB IR ten sports
01:01 Patrick Murray with a fall camp before. The balls have their
01:05 first day of two days tomorrow and early practice and 9
01:08 AM and in a scrimmage in the evening and that's scrimmage
01:11 will be important. For the quarterbacks coach Jones an offensive coordinator
01:14 Mike -- you can't. Haven't really been happy with the QB
01:17 so far this camp JP did say that he did see
01:20 some improvement. The plane pitching gets better when open receiver. When
01:24 an open receivers present that they've they've they were the hook
01:26 up today so we need to continue to do that the
01:28 -- part of the game has put -- and the progress
01:33 we've made and understand the offense has been tremendous I've found
01:37 it challenging in the meeting room to challenge them you know
01:40 they did their sharper. Couple of other positions the look for
01:43 after the scrimmage tomorrow a lot of competition going on along
01:46 the defensive line and in the line backing for. Linebackers coach
01:49 Tommy Thigpen says. They've been limiting AJ Johnson a little bit
01:53 of practice and will likely do so again in Saturday's scrimmage.
01:56 That's because they know what they're gonna get from him they
01:59 wanted to be 100% when the season comes. And they wanna
02:02 see who's gonna step up and be AJ is back up
02:05 at middle linebacker. Big day on Saturday for the balls to
02:08 practices including a scrimmage at UT campus Patrick -- WV IR
02:13 ten sports.
With just 23 days until kickoff against Utah State the Vols hit Haslam Field for day seven of fall camp on Friday.
There was a lot of competition with wide receivers and tight ends squaring off against defensive backs and linebackers in skeleton drills. Nathan Peterman connected on a couple of deep balls for touchdowns with Von Pearson and Virginia transfer Adrian Gamble.
Peterman and Joshua Dobbs were working the skeleton drills while Justin Worley worked with the offensive line and running backs against the defensive front seven in a run game competition. They played nine snaps to determine a winner. It was tied 4-4 and it appeared the defense had won the final snap but Butch Jones declared that Demarya Mixon lined up offside and called for them to replay the down. The offense won the next snap to win the competition much to Butch's delight, though he did lay into the freshman Mixon on the microphone for the mental error.
The Vols will have their first two-a-day practice of the year on Saturday. An early one at Haslam Field at 9 A.M. and a scrimmage at Neyland Stadium in the evening which will be closed to the media. Butch Jones and some players will speak to the media following the scrimmage.
Assistant coaches met with the media on Friday. Hear from offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian, defensive coordinator John Jancek and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni below.

00:00 The big thing. Will be number one this year after.
00:04 Then we have to you and look at the execution of
00:07 the calls you know -- via big indicator. To where we
00:12 how we can progress this young group and they can grasp
00:16 the concepts of good against. In our offense and a competitive
00:21 situation that would be really really good sign. If they're struggling.
00:27 We're gonna have to make some adjustments curtail -- there. Earning
00:31 her. Packet thing we've done a lot. At the the defense
00:36 players. It's been full speed ahead. It is a lot especially
00:41 freshman. You find out a lot of -- The kids. It's
00:51 spending consistent you know the older guys you know they understand
00:55 it. There's there's flashes of it but overall it's not their
00:59 habits right now. And that's our job as coaches make it
01:02 up -- That -- that's a part of it then the
01:09 other part of me is just give it all to home.
01:14 As much as you can and then just keep repeating it
01:16 repeating it takes take a break don't install for a couple
01:18 days. And then. It cuts out six and they're. It'd be
01:32 using the defense remind -- -- that unfortunately. Pastors or whether
01:40 it's like your kids -- There's so many of them out
01:43 there I mean we talk of strikes. In the picture frames.
01:48 Seven guys in the front seven. All was right on. It's
01:53 it shows. That they're working hard they're. We'll go right if
01:57 you break these guys here are eager for tomorrow and others.
02:01 Oh yeah I think I think they'll come out to be
02:04 fired up to be ready to play. And that's why I
02:07 -- to just call everything like that would normally call --
02:09 game is that noted there's going to be some excitement there's
02:12 going to be some emotion and they're gonna have to fight
02:14 through. To Psycho more the game like situation. And hopefully make
02:19 it. Calm themselves down and follow their their train of thought
02:23 follow their training and execute that's really hope to see tomorrow.
