Former Vol Jarnell Stokes was introduced by the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
MEMPHIS - Former Vols forward Jarnell Stokes was officially introduced as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
Stokes was drafted in the second round by the Utah Jazz on Thursday night, but the pick was acquired by the Grizzlies.
"I wasn't as happy as I would have been being a Grizzly so when I found out Memphis had traded for the pick, it definitely made the night worth waiting for," said Stokes.
The 6-foot-9, 263-pound Stokes has sometimes drawn comparisons to Grizzlies veteran forward Zach Randolph, who reportedly signed an extension with the team on Friday.
Many mock drafts had Stokes going in the first round in recent weeks.
"I felt like a couple of the teams in the first round passed on me," Stokes said, "and it just shows I have a lot more to prove than what I did in college."
Stokes left Tennessee after his junior season.
In 2013-14 he set the Vols' single-season rebounding record with 392.
He also tied Bernard King's school record for double-doubles in a season with 22, while leading the Vols to a Sweet 16 appearance.
Former Vols guard Jordan McRae was also drafted.
McRae was selected 58th overall by the San Antonio Spurs.
The pick was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers.
