Last year, Jeff Gordon and the folks at Pepsi Max put out a YouTube clip that showed an incognito Gordon taking a car salesman for a NASCAR-like test drive/joy ride through an abandoned parking lot. Many Internet cynics, including yours truly, called shenanigans on it.

Intent on clearing their names, Gordon and his sponsor teamed up again. They brought one of those Internet doubters — Travis Okulski from the car blog Jalopnik — down to Charlotte under the ruse that he would be test driving a new Corvette. After a long set-up, which Okulski detailed in a post on his site, the writer got into the back of a cab driven by Gordon, who was playing an ex-con turned cab driver.:

The police lights flickered and a chase ensued, complete with Okulski freaking out in a completely understandable nature.

The big reveal came when Gordon pulled the cab into a warehouse decorated with Pepsi Max banners.

The first Pepsi Max viral video was a fake. But as Okulski can attest, this one was very, very real (and spectacular).
