NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels will not play in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Jan. 4 after having surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

Coach James Franklin said Monday that Carta-Samuels tore his ACL in a win Oct. 19 over Georgia and had surgery to repair his knee shortly after the regular season ended Nov. 30.

Carta-Samuels missed two games with the injury.

But Franklin says doctors cleared Carta-Samuels to play with a brace after some rehabilitation. The senior started after suffering the injury and helped the Commodores beat Kentucky, Tennessee and Wake Forest to finish 8-4 in the regular season a second straight year.

Patton Robinette will start against Houston in Birmingham, Ala. Robinette started in a loss at Texas A&M and a win at Florida.
