It's obvious the Titans have a lot to prove in 2014.
The most recent reminder: Pro Football Talk's preseason power rankings.
The Titans are 30th. Only the Dolphins (31st) and Raiders (32nd) are considered weaker teams by the popular website.
What's interesting is a poll at the bottom of the article suggests roughly 40 percent of the fans think the rating is "just right." Among the big weaknesses listed for the Titans: their secondary.
Personally, I think the Titans are better off in the secondary than most observers realize. No, they didn't go out and sign a replacement for Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner, but only because the front office and the coaches are confident in Coty Sensabaugh and Blidi Wreh-Wilson. So far, I've liked what I've seen from those guys, too.
I'm not big into the whole "no respect" thing. While some Titans always think they get shafted in preseason rankings like this one, this year's bunch needs to stay quiet and focus on winning games. After all, the Titans haven't been to the playoffs since 2008, and haven't won a playoff game since 2003. Their record over the past two seasons: 13-19.
I expect the Titans to be an improved team in 2014. I don't believe they're the third-worst team in the NFL. When the schedule came out earlier this offseason, I pegged them for 8-8.
But they definitely have a lot to prove.
Still, it's the end-of-the-season ranking that matters most.
