Here's a preview of what to expect in high school football this Friday.
The USA Today High School Game of the Week featured on 10News2 for Week 8 will be Grace Christian at Greenback. Greenback has been a consistent team over the years, usually only adding a loss to Grace and maybe one other team to their record. However, this year they already have two losses going into the match-up. Grace Christian is undefeated and has proven to be a very strong team. The last time that Greenback won over Grace Christian was in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2008, ever since the Rams have ganged up to destroy the Cherokees. This year does not look like it will be any different.
A win at home looks good for Alcoa this week as they host CAK. CAK has had several tough losses this year and pushed through to the end without giving up the fight in majority of their games. They give their opponent a challenge, but unfortunately they give their opponent a win as well. The Warriors have only successfully been to battle twice this season. Alcoa has only one embarrassing loss to their rival Maryville at the beginning of the season. Alcoa should collect an easy district win this week.
Undefeated Maryville will host William Blount for Week 8. This district game will be a blowout in Maryville's favor. Although, Lenoir City gave Maryville their closest game last week and William Blount barely lost to the Panthers the week before that. William Blount could give the Rebels a game, but the chances are very unlikely.
After a bye week last week, the power house is back. Fulton will host Union County for another one of their devastating district battles. Union County is struggling this season, and this will get nasty quick.
What a game this will be at Carter as the school hosts Gatlinburg-Pittman this Friday. Both teams have had phenomenal seasons thus far. Carter is undefeated and Gatlinburg-Pittman has only one loss to Fulton. This will be the game that sets the two teams apart at the end of the season since Carter will gain a loss from Fulton as well if the Falcons continue on the path they are on. Both teams have been scoring big and allowing little, this will be a great game of football to catch!
Catholic is looking solid for Week 8 as they host Scott County. Scott County has a solid record, but they have been destroyed by any strong team they have played. CAK ended their undefeated streak winning 47-7 over the Highlanders. However, Catholic won in overtime to CAK. This should not even be a close one.
Powell will take part in a throw down as they host Oak Ridge. These two teams have competed on about the same level this season and are looking for this win to push one in front of the other in the standings. This will be another game that will be a great match-up of football on both sides of the ball.
Another brutal battle at Loudon, which hosts McMinn Central. Neither team has proven to be strong this season and both are in desperate need for a win. The future is not looking bright for either school, but at least this week they will experience a close game versus the blowouts that they are accustomed to.
Lenoir City should get their fourth win this week as they host the Mountaineers of Heritage. Heritage has struggled this season only collecting one close win against Seymour. Lenoir City could desperately use this win if they stand any chance of going anywhere in the playoffs.
Oneida and Coalfield often go under the radar, but both teams are having sensational season and playing extremely well, especially in their district. Coalfield will host Oneida this week. Each team will be battling to the end for this win as it could push them to the top of their division. They each have been winning by a lot and allowing very few points. This game will be a fantastic match-up and a close game.
Another close district game as Oliver Springs hosts Sunbright. Both teams have played decently well this season and this will be a great game to watch. Sunbright does have the slight upperhand this week, but you will not be disappointed if you catch a glimpse of this game.
