Both Lenoir City and Hardin Valley came into their Friday night matchup all even with 4-4 records. Only one team could move above .500, but Hardin Valley had much to prove to themselves in order to overcome their recent skid. The Hawks had lost four of their last five and with only two games left in the season, they looked to end it on a high note. The Panters, on the other hand, had come out the winner in three of their last four games. They would get that crucial fifth win to put them at a winning record going into the last week of the regular season. They won in a tight one on this night, 35-25.
Coming off their worst loss of the season against Maryville, the William Blount Governors have had a forgetful season. They've lost four in a row and had a 2-6 record coming into their game against Farragut. The Admirals have been streaking and have indeed been playing admirable football, having won three straight going into the matchup, including a big win against rival Bearden. They would add to it tonight, beating the Governors 30-22.
Maryville isn't going to lose in the regular season. They have completely dismantled defenses, stifled defenses and have been more than reliable in their big-play capability on special teams. Somehow, Bearden must have known that. The Bulldogs were muzzled last week by their biggest rival Farragut and tonight was worse. Maryville continued its quest for a state championship by beating the Bulldogs 51-0 in a route.
Sequoyah has had a remarkable season thus far with a 6-2 record going into their game with Clinton. They won big time against Kingston last week. Clinton has been lackluster with a 3-5 record and no hope to reach .500 by the end of the regular season. Sequoyah was favorited in this matchup and didn't disappoint. They won the game in another route 35-8. Maybe Clinton can stop the slide against the team every team has beaten, Halls, next week.
Anderson County looked to pad their 7-1 record against Halls, who have lost every game on their schedule this season. Anderson County only has one loss, a Week Five loss to Powell. They won tonight in a blowout and have continued their knack for putting big points on the board. They moved to 8-1 in a 43-13 blowout.
Gibbs only has three wins this season. Powell has only three losses this season. An easy Powell win, right? On paper yes, but on the field, Gibbs had other ideas. Powell may have been caught looking ahead to Campbell County next week, because they were not ready to play on this night. Gibbs wins in the upset 28-14 and have a chance to end the regular season at .500 with a win next week.
Oak Ridge has been rolling, having won six of their last seven games going into their matchup with Central. Central has won their last two, but have been consistent with their two win, two loss routine this season. It held true tonight. They won last week, but lost this week 24-13 to the Wildcats. Oak Ridge has a chance to build on their winning streak next week in a showdown with Anderson County.
Maplewood is a school out of Nashville and they made the trip to Knoxville to take on Alcoa. They have a 4-4 record this season, but Alcoa has a seven-game winning streak. The Tornadoes weren't caught looking ahead to their huge matchup against Catholic next week. They took care of business against the visitors 43-7.
