The first Associated Press high school football polls of the season were released this week for the state of Tennessee and many area teams made the list. The rankings, selected by Tennessee AP sportswriters and broadcasters, consisted of the top 10 teams in each of the state's different divisions.

Maryville, with dominant wins against Webb and Alcoa to start the season, topped the class 6A rankings, grabbing 13 of the possible 16 first place votes. Sevier County came in at number seven.

Knoxville West held the number one ranking for the 5A class, Anderson County ranked at number five, Campbell County came in at number eight, and South Doyle rounded out the top 10.

For the 4A class, Fulton won all but one of the first place votes with their explosive start. Catholic came in right behind at second.

Despite their loss at Maryville, Alcoa led the 3A class, a unanimous decision and CAK ranked at number three.

In class 2A, Grace Christian took the top spot. In the 1A class, Greenback took third in the state and Coalfield was fifth.

For Division II, Webb, despite dropping their first two games, are ranked number seven.
