(WBIR-Maryville) Maryville College is showcasing plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles on its campus on Thursday. The event is part of National Plug in Day, which highlights the availability and advantages of all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars, trucks and motorcycles.

People are encouraged to come see the cars, and talk with representatives about their features and savings first hand.

"It's gonna save you about 74% off your fuel bill every year, so if in a regular car, gasoline car, I spend about $3,000 dollars per year in fuel, I would pay about $750 dollars in electricity to go the same distance," said Jonathan Overly, Director of the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalitiion.

In addition to saving on gas, one Maryville College professor says electric and hybrid cars can also help maintain air quality.

This is the third year "Plug-In" festivities have been recognized nationwide.
