Celebrity meteorologist Jim Cantore is in Nashville today covering the season's first spurt of severe weather for The Weather Channel.

Cantore stopped by the National Weather Service's Old Hickory office to discuss the storm, which is poised to hit the Nashville area between 6 and 9 p.m.

Tornadoes will be possible along the storm front, Cantore said, but the main threat is straight-line winds with gusts of up to 45 mph.

"With an outbreak of this size, it certainly wouldn't be out if the question to have damage somewhere within the metro area," he said. "Wind damage especially."

Cantore took breaks from weather talk to visit fans, some of whom drove to the Weather Service office from across the area.

He's become used to the attention. In fact, he has a famous base of fans in Music City. He said he's learned Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton and Toby Keith follow his forecasts.
