The National Weather Service confirmed that a weak tornado hit Coffee County during a wave of severe storms that passed through Middle Tennessee Thursday night.
The EF-1, which marks the first tornado of 2014 for Middle Tennessee, didn't injure anyone, but it tore through grain silos along Highway 41 in Pelham, according to a storm survey released by the Weather Service.
The tornado lasted for about one minute Thursday night and produced gusts of up to 90 mph, surveyors said. It traced a path that was 1.2 miles long and 250 yards wide.
No other tornadoes have been confirmed from Thursday's storms. Surveyors already determined that straight-line winds destroyed a barn in Robertson County.
The storms marked Middle Tennessee's first spurt of severe weather in 2014. Meteorologist Jim Cantore with The Weather Channel covered the storm system from Nashville.
