NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Snow and colder temperatures are headed back to Tennessee.

The National Weather Service says the arctic blast is expected to hit on Tuesday, bringing snow showers and temperatures that could dip into the single digits.

Snow showers are in the forecast for areas east of Interstate 24. The weather service says the greatest accumulations are expected in the mountains of East Tennessee. The northern Cumberland Plateau could see up to an inch of accumulation while a half-inch is possible across the rest of the Cumberland region. Areas in the Interstate 24 corridor could see a dusting of snow.

The blast of winter weather also will bring dropping temperatures. By the afternoon, temperatures are expected to be in the 20s and could bottom out in the single digits by early Wednesday.
