LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- No helmet -- no skateboard. The City Council in Laguna Beach, California, has voted in favor of an ordinance that would allow police to confiscate the boards of people who aren't wearing helmets.

The Orange County Register reports first-time offenders could lose their skateboards for a week. Repeat offenders could lose their boards for up to a month.

The ordinance would also require the parents of the non-helmet wearing kids to pick up the confiscated skateboards.

State law requires anyone under 18 to wear a helmet when riding a skateboard, but the local ordinance would apply to all.
