The Tennessean
Kristen Kelly is fresh off Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality tour and making the most of the momentum she picked up on the road.
Kelly's debut single, "Ex-Old Man," is now at country radio, and her
self-titled EP featuring the song will be available for download
Tuesday.
"On the Paisley tour, people kept asking for the music, now they can
get it," Kelly says. "I think it's going well. (Radio is steadily
playing my song more.) I'm just going to ride this song as far as it
will go."
Kelly wrote "Ex-Old Man" after discovering her ex-husband was having
an affair with her best friend several years ago. She remembers pulling
into the driveway at her house, seeing them drive by together in his
truck and thinking, "that just happened."
Today, the couple is married and Kelly is breaking chart records with
the song they inspired. "Ex-Old Man" marked the first time that a new
female country artist's debut song was the most-added single at country
radio, which means more radio stations played the song its first week
out than any other debut from a female artist in Country Aircheck
history.
The other songs on the mini-album are "He Loves To Make Me Cry," "Drink Myself Out of Love With You" and "Miss Me."
"I feel like it's a good insight into what the record is going to be
like," says Kelly, who co-wrote all four songs. "I feel like those are
four different sides of my music and it all plays out on the full-length
album."
The album is expected to be out after the first of the year.
