Comedy Central announced today it has struck a deal with Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler to produce a TV adaptation of the Web series Broad City, which stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer.
Broad City
follows two friends (Jacobson and Glazer) navigating life in New York
City. The 10-episode scripted comedy will premiere in 2014.
The
series was started by its two stars as a sketch idea at the Upright
Citizens Brigade in New York, and then evolved into a Web hit. Poehler
counts herself among UCB's alumni.
"Finally, there's a television
show set in New York City," joked Comedy Central's Kent Alterman. "I'm
immensely proud that we have done it first."
Said Poehler, "I'm
excited to work with Comedy Central and introduce Abbi and Ilana to
America. And all the other countries. And also Mars. We've got big
plans."
The series has been nominated for the Emerging Comics of
New York's "Best Web Series" award, and Jacobson and Glazer also were
nominated individually.
