East Tennesseans went to two cemeteries to place American flags and honor veterans for their service Saturday. That's ahead of Veterans Day remembrance next weekend.
They visited both John Sevier and Lyons View cemeteries at the break of dawn.
Michael Testerman, the vice commander of the American Legion Post 2, said that this flag placement is important and a way to preserve and honor the memories of the veterans.
"We're doing what they can't do right now," Testerman said. "We're making sure that they're never forgotten."
Testerman also says that placing the flags is a big part of the healing process for many military families.
"It's everything from a healing process, to being able to — some fo the veteran's spouses and families are here — hearing their stories about the gentleman, soldier or individual that's here."
On Friday, 10News will have live coverage of the Veterans Day Parade as Knoxville celebrates the service of U.S. military veterans.
